Abstract

Idioms are a type of writing in which the meaning differs from what the phrase apparently expresses, these expressions are the key in defining the real use of English. The objective of this article is to determine the incidence of idiomatic expressions in the teaching-learning process of real English use from the New English language culture, in order to develop the communicative, interactive and intercultural competence from the sociocultural context in which third-year students of the career Education Foreign Languages Major at the University of Pinar del Río. The quantitative and qualitative paradigms were used; as well as theoretical methods: the dialectical, the historical, the logical, the systemic and the modeling, the analysis and the synthesis; as empirical methods: documentary analysis, class observation and survey. A strategy was proposed consisting of a system of actions that focus the use of understandable idiomatic phrases and the support of interactive tasks for students to carry out inside and outside the classroom. The implementation of the strategy revealed satisfactory results in terms of the objective of learning English and its dimensions of linguistic and communicative skills, the culture of learning through reflection and interaction, and the contextualization of the language through different cultures.

Pedro Alejandro Vigil García, University of Pinar del Rio "Hnos Saíz Montes de Oca"

Pedro Alejandro Vigil García is BA in Education Major, Foreign Languages (English). He is a teacher at the University of Pinar del Río. He teaches Foreign Language Didactics, Foreign Languages and Methodology. He speaks English, French and Spanish. He is co-author of the book: Interactive English Use Learning (2019) and several articles, also currently working on two books related to English Language Teaching. He has started to PhD studies in Pedagogy.

Ernesto Emilio Andarcio Betancourt, University of Pinar del Rio "Hnos Saíz Montes de Oca"

Ernesto Emilio Andarcio Betancourt is a student-teacher of the career Education Major, Foreign Languages (English) form the University of Pinar del Río. He is a member of the research projects “Creation of a New English Language Culture” and “Teaching English Through Arts”. He has been applying the ideas promoted by the project in preuniversity as part of his diploma. He has participated in several national and international scientific conferences. He has taken several student-training courses. He is author of several scientific articles about English Teaching and Environmental Education.

Maikel Torres Domínguez, University of Pinar del Rio "Hnos Saíz Montes de Oca"

Maikel Torres Domínguez is BA in Major Education, Foreign Languages (English). He is a teacher at the University of Pinar del Río. He teaches English and French. He speaks English, French, Portuguese, German and Spanish. He is co-author in scientific article and has started his Master in Science.
